My first trailer that got finished on film domestically is being shown now in front of all movies at Landmark Theatres!  Yay (it's for the Mad Men TV show on AMC).

http://www.sifuchenying.net/video.shtml?traditional_reel

Made that the other day for coach's traditional class (thanks for the footage Rich).  Now it makes me want to make one for our wushu class :P

Went to Vegas last week with Wendy for her FMI convention.  She got to work, I got to try out foods, wines and beer :P.  Irene came and kept us company, and we watched a few shows.  Here's my views on the shows and what seats you should get if you ever go see them:

Cirque Du Soleil Ka's biggest attraction is probably the ridiculous stage, which makes even stuff on Broadway here look tame.  It is one of the craziest theaters I've seen, and awesome to behold.  A few of the segments in the show fall flat, but otherwise a definite must see, even if you probably won't understand the story at all.  Its not told very well in the setup, instead opting to move from spectacle to spectacle, but then again, this is Cirque Du Soleil and that's what you're here for right?

I wish we bought better seating (sold out), because in traditional theater style, the closer you are, the more you see.  However, because of the crazy stage where things are going on everywhere, you should probably aim to get seating along the 6th-8th row.

Cirque Du Soleil's Love on the underhand is a lot smaller.  Any seat you buy will be a good seat as it is a very intimate theater, with seats sloping downwards along every wall.  There is a ton of gorgeous acts as we follow the Beatles' journey through the usual awesome Cirque acrobatics, light shows, sound bites from the Beatles recording sessions, and the fun loving clowns.  Wendy summed it up best as being one of the most perfect Cirque shows she's seen (although I personally didn't care for the act with the giant puppets).

This trip was also the first time I ever seen a hypnotist.  Irene and I were nonbelievers, but after watching it, even we were hard pressed to still be skeptics.  He takes volunteers as well as anyone who falls into the hypnotized state when he does that.  The hilarious acts that he makes them perform are unbelievable, what's even crazier is the look of shock to their friends when the "performers" leave the show (its all captured on DVD for them to relive).  Now you may think they hire actors to fake it, but go and watch the show and you will realize that the people who are up there are either superb actors of the highest caliber, or this hypnotist is one skilled guy.  Great show.

We also got to try some restaurants, but of course since we're spoiled by NY, we weren't too thrilled with some of them.  The first major one we tried was Spago

Wolfgang Puck is a reknowned restauranteur, but this really fell short of expectations.  The head chef here took too much influence from Asian food, and obviously us being Asian and having gone to eat some great Asian food, it toally did not live up to expectations.  The final entree was so bad that we had to send it back (and from the look the chef gave us in the corner of the room, he probably knew it wasn't up to standard, we were also the only Asians there at the time).  At least the service was excellent and they gave us complimentary drinks and a 2nd desert due to the entree's failure.

The other restaurant that we went to managed to pleasantly surprise us after the outing at Spago.

Mario Battali's Enoceta San Marco stayed true to his routes, offering delicious Italian food that pays careful attention to the flavors (we have much fresher ingredients in NY so its good they didn't try to showcase that).  Their pasta was to die for, their steak and pork shoulder were also really delicious, the quality of the meat was slightly lacking, but the flavor actually more than made up for it.  If you want something delicious at the Venetian, go to this restaurant!

Ok that pretty much sums up my past week (aside from work), I'm a little sick now so hopefully I recover.  Feeling the Nyquil kick in zzzzzzzz

Wendy just made me realize we saw Sara Bareilles in concert before.  She was the opening act for Mika.  She was also horrible in her rendition of Love Song and very forgettable (we didn't even realize that popular girl on the radio and mtv was that same shaky voiced performer sitting on stage without charisma).  Hopefully she's gotten better on stage because as a performer last year, she doesn't deserve to be on the top of the Billboard charts.

In other news, we will be in Vegas early May!! Wendy has to go there for work so I'm tagging along :P

Hmmm, seems like I'm not into blogging anymore :P  But here's a update to show that I'm alive and well!!  Nothing much new happening except the usual getting better at work, more practice editing, and more fun projects I can't talk about publicly!  Buuuut, we moved into a new place last month and spent the past month building Ikea furniture and unpacking stuff.  Here's some pics

When you walk in you see the kitchen,

To the right is the bathroom

Then the living room is on the left

the office room

and of course, the bedroom :)  Much more comfy than before

hmm, once again its been a while, and small accomplishments and goals seem kind of trivial to post on a blog to me these days.  Lets see, I'm getting better at ping pong, new gymnastics exercises are helping wushu a lot, work is going well and getting lots of experience in editing, oh and we're probably going to MOVE IN A WEEK!!! Same neighborhood (safe/cheap), but bigger place and a real kitchen...  So now Wendy can cook more for me hah :P

Oh, and one movie everyone should see this weekend is In Bruges, /Film reviewed it already (http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/02/04/kens-review-in-bruges-the-only-place-to-visit-this-weekend/)
so I guess there's no harm in telling everyone my opinion: this is one of the best dark comedies of the year.  One of the more clever movies that are probably not on anyone's must see list, but you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.
